Info

I was looking for something to listen to that would improve my mood a few days ago and remembered this record. I am going to credit it for the return of the sun and beautiful weather this week.

Will Holland, aka Quantic, succeeds once again here in mixing many of his favorite styles -dancefloor beats, Latin instrumentation, lush orchestrations, funk and folk touches- topped off with vocals from his regular collaborator, Alice Russell. His earliest Quantic records were good, but still essentially downtempo, hip-hop influenced productions, drawing from the British trip hop and electronic scenes. His his growth into serious reggae, cumbia, soul jazz and more was pretty remarkable though.

The UK native transformed himself into a more "international" artist than many that I can think of, spending the better part of a decade based in Colombia honing his cumbia chops and currently runs a studio in New York. This song alone was recorded in London, Los Angeles, Bogota, and Rio De Janeiro and features strings from the great American arranger Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and percussion from Brazilian Duani, in addition to the vocals from fellow Brit, Russell. Holland himself adds guitar, accordion and banjo(?!) to the tune.

1000 copies of this single were pressed for Record Store Day in 2014 and I don't think these mixes were included on any other releases. It's a beautiful track -and surely the best banjo-driven, dancefloor cut that you'll hear this week.

It's nearly 50 degrees and brilliantly sunny today. The weather is crisp in a way that I love and the union had a win yesterday that is letting me relax just a little easier than usual. The world looks how this song sounds for me. I hope you enjoy.
